NORTH SHORE BASEBALL ASSOCIATION HAS ARRIVED!!!
We are pleased to introduce North Shore Baseball (NSBA) for players from across the North Shore. NSBA is for players of all abilities ages 4 to 24. The North Shore Baseball Association was established when the members of Forest Hills and North Vancouver Central voted to come together as one strong league under the BC Minor Baseball umbrella.
LEAGUE BOUNDARIES
Boundaries for the North Shore Baseball Association extend from Deep Cove to Lions Bay and Bowen Island. It is an inclusive league without the strict boundary limitations found in other leagues on the North Shore.
WHAT IS BC MINOR BASEBALL?
BC Minor is the largest, strongest and most rapidly growing baseball program in BC. With over 17,000 players in BC, this local grassroots organization continues to gain members and support across the province each year.
For the younger players there is virtually no difference from last year except age groupings. In BC Minor, players are grouped by calendar year age. This means kids will be playing with their friends in the same grade at each and every level. The regular season runs from April to June and then there are additional opportunities for all players for the summer season.
AGE DIVISIONS
NSBA is for players of all abilities aged 4 to 24. The age divisions are:
- 5U Blast Ball (2012)
- 7U T-Ball (2010/2011)
- 9U Tadpole (2008/2009)
- 11U Mosquito (2006/2007)
- 13U PeeWee (2004/2005)
- 15U Bantam (2002/2003)
- 18U Midget (1999/2000/2001)
- 25U Junior Men (1992-1998)
EXCITING WINTER BALL OPPORTUNITIES
Winter ball player development will be open to all interested players. Sign up will be available shortly. Instructions will be sent out to specific age groupings.
- 18U Midget and 15U Bantam: Starting November 27th, we will be offering winter training at Inside Performance at a very reasonable rate. Both age groups will be coached by experienced BC Minor coaches holding NCCP baseball coaching certifications. This training will continue again in January and February prior to “AAA” and “AA” tryouts.
- 13U Pee Wee and 11U Mosquito: In addition to our Friday night offerings at Queen Mary Gym through Last Raps, watch for information on our drop in sessions open to all interested players starting in January.
- 9U Tadpole: We will also continue to offer our Friday night offerings at Queen Mary Gym through Last Raps.
Note: Last Raps is a professional coaching organization providing player development through various camps and clinics including those established in partnership with NSBA.
HOME FIELDS
Home fields will be in North Vancouver and we expect the locations to remain unchanged. For all leagues, access to fields is determined by league size, need and residency of players. We have finalized our field application based on our anticipated enrolment and anticipate access to the same fields we used last year as well as those required for the increased demand for NSBA. We will continue to update the City and the District as our numbers grow.
TRAVEL
There seems to be a misunderstanding that BC Minor ball means increased travel. This is simply not the case. At the young ages, the priority in BC Minor is about fun, friends and development at your local fields such as Cleveland, Zuehlke, Sowden, Loutet and Eldon.
Starting in regular season for 13U Pee Wee and in summer season for 11U Mosquito, players are tiered according to ability. The more competitive teams will play some games off the North Shore. Many of these games will be on the weekend and will be set in consultation with coaches. As always, the older players (15U Bantam and older) will play at the fields appropriate for their age.
SUMMER BALL FOR EVERYONE
Summer ball will be offered to all players starting at the 9U Tadpole. Summer baseball is not exclusive or limited only to the 12 or 13 best players for a limited tournament. BC Minor wants to keep all interested kids on the field for as long as possible. During July and part of August, players are given the opportunity to play with players of similar abilities in a highly organized system including scheduled games and tournament play.
COACHING DEVELOPMENT AND PLAYER SAFETY
One of the most important features of BC Minor is a strong local system committed to training, regulating and certifying coaches through the NCCP coaching certification program. This is not the case in other leagues such as Little League. In addition to the Criminal Record Review process, BC Minor will be offering all coaches coaching development on the North Shore as well as other training opportunities in the Lower Mainland. Coaching requirements increase with each level of play. Well trained coaches promote player development through quality coaching and keep the kids safe.
QUESTIONS
At the North Shore Baseball Association there are no stupid questions. We are committed to being an open and transparent organization. We will be building an FAQ section on the website so please send us your questions and concerns so we can get the information up for all to see.
We will also be offering information sessions for interested parents in December and/or January.
