NCCP Coach Training 2019

February 23, 2019

North Shore Baseball Association supports its coaches to achieve National Coaching Certification Program (“NCCP”) completion.

We need our coaches to register for NCCP training ASAP. This is a tremendous opportunity to learn valuable core coaching skills and equip yourselves for higher level coaching down the road. Registration for the clinics will be on the NCCP website within a short period of time but you can get started online immediately. All costs will be reimbursed to you by NSBA if you are a member in good standing. Details below:

Baseball’s NCCP gives baseball coaches the confidence to succeed and is the only coach program for baseball recognized in Canada.

The NCCP is a four (4) stage program for coaches. NSBA is offering coaches the opportunity to get the first 3 stages completed by March 10, 2019.

Coaches involved in 5U (Blast Ball) through 9U (Tadpole) at minimum should complete Stages 1 and 2.

Coaches involved in 11U (Mosquito) through 25U (Junior Men) should complete Stage 3, particularly at 13U (PeeWee) and above. Completing Stage 3 gives you “Regionally Trained” coach status and is a pre-requisite for you to coach at Western Canadian Championships.

Below are the stages:

Stage 1 – Coach Initiation in Sport – online module (fundamentals of coaching)

This takes approximately 30 minutes to complete online.

Stage 2 – Coach Initiation in Baseball (Fundamentals) – online module

This takes approximately 30 minutes to complete online.

Stage 3 – Regional Coach – Clinics. There are 4 clinics you attend in person to get Regional Coach Status. The courses are:

  1. Initiation Coach Clinic – Covers ethics, skills, drills, and safety – 4 hour course.
  2. Teaching and Learning Clinic – Covers tactics and technical ways to teach, and examines athletes learning process – 4 hour course.
  3. Planning Clinic – How to plan practices and seasons – 4 hour course.
  4. Absolutes Clinic – Technical drills (hitting and development of skills) – 4 hour course.

What NSBA needs from you so that we can provide free training for all NSBA coaches:

  1. Register for Stage 1 and 2 as soon as possible. Then take the online training. You should be done it within 1 hour.
  2. Register for Stage 3 training to become a Regional Coach. We need at least 16 coaches to register for Stage 3 to make this cost effective. It is a commitment on your part – it is in total 16 hours of training over two days (Saturday, March 9th and Sunday, March 10th); but it will improve your coach skills and make our players better. If we don’t have the numbers it is unlikely we can put on this training opportunity.

How to Register:

  1. Please register ASAP. Go to https://nccp.baseball.ca/
    1. If you already have Stage 1 or 2 completed (and you have a NCCP number) you don’t need to register – you already have. Rather, you can simply login and pick “NSBA – West Vancouver” for your Stage 3 training – you will attend the clinics at Collingwood School, Morven Campus, on Saturday and Sunday, March 9th and 10th, 2019
    2. If you have never registered with NCCP, click on the “Register” button on the left side of the webpage. Fill out the required information – you will create a username and password. Then login to your NCCP profile and go to the “status” page. You can then complete Stage 1 and Stage 2. This can all be done before you receive your NCCP number which should take 24 hours. Once you’ve received your NCCP number, login again and pick “NSBA – West Vancouver” for your Stage 3 training – you will attend the clinics at Collingwood School, Morven Campus, on Saturday and Sunday, March 9th and 10th, 2019
