Divisions:
Additional details for each division are included below to give you a sense of the anticipated schedule. In all cases, it is anticipated summer schedules from BC Minor Baseball will commence on the last weekend of June and will run through the August BC Day holiday weekend for most divisions, although this remains subject to confirmation.
5U / 7U Summer Play:
NSBA in 2023 offered fun, weekly summer play for players in these divisions. We will do so again, subject to player and coach interest and availability. The anticipated date for programming is July 1 – 30.
9U Summer Play:
At the 9U division, the league traditionally forms both an 8U (machine pitch) and 9U (player pitch) team. The teams then connect with other similar age teams in the lower mainland to self-schedule exhibition games and attend 2-3 tournaments. The time commitment for summer play at this age is typically 2-3 practices and up to 2 games per week, but this will ultimately be decided by the head coach of each team.
11U Summer Play:
At the 11U division, BC Minor offers 10U A, 11U A, 11U AA, and 11U AAA. NSBA intends to form at least an 11U AAA team, with 11U AA and 10U A (first year players only) teams fielded based on registration and coach interest and availability. The teams will play a full season for summer play, organized by BC Minor, with players remaining generally within regions (ie Lower Mainland). The activity level of the summer teams at this age is generally 2-3 practices per week with 2-3 games per week. There will be a year-end provincial championship tournament August 1 – 5, which teams will qualify for based on summer season play. NSBA is the provincial host for 11U AAA in 2024! NSBA will fund one additional tournament per team.
13U Summer Play:
At the 13U division, the association will form a 13U AA team and will consider a 13U “A” team based on registration and coach interest and availability. 13U AA will hold a tryout in early June for interested players, with a focus on filling roster spots for any spring 13U AA players who do not continue into summer. The teams will play a full season for summer play, organized by BC Minor, with players remaining generally within regions (ie Lower Mainland). The activity level of the AA team is generally very busy, with 2+ practices per week and busy game schedules which may include select doubleheaders. “A” teams are more active than spring play but generally play a more relaxed game schedule than AA. There will be a year-end provincial championship tournament for each tier (13U A is Aug. 8 – 12 and 13U AA is July 25 – 29). NSBA will fund one additional tournament per team.
15U Summer Play:
At the 15U division, the association will form a 15U “A” team with players selected based on merit from those interested. The team will play a full season for summer play, organized by BC Minor, with players remaining generally within regions (ie Lower Mainland). The activity level of the summer teams at this age is generally 2 practices per week with 2 games per week. There will be a year-end provincial championship tournament Aug. 8 – 12. NSBA will fund one additional tournament for this team.
18U Summer Play:
At the 18U division, the association will form a 18U AA team with players selected based on merit from those interested. The team will play a full season for summer play, organized by BC Minor, with players remaining generally within regions (ie Lower Mainland). The activity level of the summer teams at this age is generally 2 practices per week with 1-2 games per week, but this may vary significantly based on player and coach availability and interest. There will be a year-end provincial championship tournament Aug. 1 – 5. NSBA will fund one additional tournament for this team.
